…Noteworthy section of Education Apps in the Australian iTunes Store on 24 August. You will see that nineteen of the first twenty applications on offer are apps to support children to learn their ABC. I mean, seriously? Are their developers still out there thinking, I know, what parents need is an iPhone app to help their children learn early literacy skills?
If the iTunes App Store is anything to go by, we will have children so well-versed in the knowledge of the alphabet they will start inventing new letters just to make life more interesting in 20 years time.
One thing that defines us as GeekMoms and GeekDads is our desire to see our children question and challenge the status quo, to help them grow into human beings who are capable of tackling the future and making this world a better place. If they are going to do that well, we need to begin to look at the new technology offered to us by iPads and touch tablets and start demanding that we design applications that make the most of that technology?
